Last year, we honored our top drivers as part of our 2019 Winners’ Circle. These professional drivers go above and beyond for Ruan. How long have you been driving for Ruan?
I have worked under Ruan for 10 years this upcoming June.
What made you apply to drive for Ruan?
When Ruan took over dedicated operations for the customer where I worked, we were given the opportunity to apply with Ruan. I've been with Ruan ever since.
What is your favorite memory during your time at Ruan?
When I realized that Ruan was going to be the best thing that could have happened to the trucking side of operations for my customers. Not much effort went into safety with the trucks and drivers before.
What do you like most about working for Ruan?
The Captain of the Ship mentality...being given ultimate control over the truck and load. There is no grey area. The safety department has your back 100 percent.
What do you do in your free time while not driving?
Throughout the summer, my wife and I have a camper directly on the Ohio River that we travel one and half hours to May through October. My wife loves beach vacations, and I hide under a few umbrellas and wait it out until it’s time for the awesome seafood dinners.
Do you have any tips for drivers who are considering driving for Ruan?
On flatbed accounts, this is not the easiest of driving jobs. If you don’t mind that, you will not find a company that pays more, gets you home EVERY night and off EVERY WEEKEND!
What is your safe driving philosophy?
Take your time. Spend the time in the morning going over the load. It’s a mixed bag of products. Throw the extra strap or two (or three!), if needed. Why risk anything? Use edge protection! They are provided and are going to keep you from being on the side of the road trying to replace it.
How did it feel to be recognized as part of Ruan’s Driver of the Year Winners’ Circle?
It was an honor! It sounds like a stock answer, but to be chosen from 4,600 drivers, it was. I take pride in what I do.
