A Day in the Life of a Ruan Diesel Mechanic

Every day is an adventure at Ruan. Our diesel mechanics work on our fleet of late-model tractors and trailers, diagnosing and solving mechanical problems using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. You'll perform routine preventative maintenance inspections, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment. In addition, you'll complete state and federal inspections and more.

Ruan's Technician Apprenticeship Program

Ruan's Technician Apprenticeship Program is for individuals who want a long-term career and like to work with their hands and solve problems. Our program is available to individuals without prior technician training who want to learn from veteran diesel mechanics and become professional technicians. This program allows apprentices to learn while working on the best late-model equipment in the trucking industry. Ruan provides apprentices with Snap-on tools that can be used while learning new skills. These tools are given to the apprentices upon graduation from the three-year paid, structured apprenticeship program.

Tools and Boots

Ruan recognizes that after the initial investment in tools, ongoing maintenance is required to repair or replace them. That's why Ruan offers a technician tool reimbursement program, providing each mechanic with a $1,000 tool reimbursement. Committed to our employees' health, safety, and welfare, and in addition to supplying Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), Ruan will provide a $150 voucher per calendar year to mechanics required to wear work boots, allowing them to purchase Red Wing Safety Boots.

Paid Training

All of our technicians have access to the latest training, technology, and safety procedures to ensure career growth and help you achieve your highest potential. Ruan offers many benefits to our technicians, including paid Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification to support you as you start or continue your career with us.

Working in the 24/7 transportation and logistics industry provides a variety of flexible shifts to accommodate all schedules. Most of our technicians have a guaranteed, steady 40-hour workweek with paid holidays and vacation time. Top Tech

Each technician at Ruan can test their skills by qualifying to compete in our annual Top Tech Competition. This competition offers our technicians the opportunity to refresh their skill set, identify areas for improvement, and compete with the best technicians across our shops for awards and monetary prizes. The top three winners from Ruan will go on to compete against other technicians at the national level in the TMC SuperTech Competition.
