An Eggcellent Supply Chain Solution for Vital Farms

Vital Farms is the leading producer of pasture-raised eggs in the country. They partner with small family farms across the nation to deliver high-quality, ethically sourced food products to the tables of American families. Vital Farms’ products—including shell eggs, butter, hard-boiled eggs, and liquid whole eggs—are sold in more than 24,000 stores nationwide. Vital Farms’ size and projected growth required logistics partners that could scale and provide exceptional customer service.

Seneca Foods and Ruan Have a “Can” Do Partnership

Seneca Foods is a shelf-to-table business, predominantly producing canned and frozen vegetables, for grocery chains, private labels, food service companies, and industrial baking and food production organizations. Operating multiple interdependent facilities each processing different commodities, Seneca Foods needed a dedicated logistics partner that could be the physical link between and an extension of their plants in order to ensure production stays on track.

A cordial partnership between the State of Iowa and Ruan assures timely and cost-effective distribution of alcohol within the Hawkeye State. One business that remained very strong during the past year and a half of the pandemic is that of alcohol distribution. The State of Iowa experienced this with steadily increasing sales at a time when product variety was also growing.

Ruan began its partnership with Charter Steel in 2018 after Charter Steel issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) seeking a transportation provider capable of delivering consistent, ongoing improvements to its freight network and transportation operations. Ruan was ultimately selected as Charter Steel’s chosen dedicated provider in this RFP process.

Scaling with Do it Best's growth allowed Ruan to integrate additional resources seamlessly into Do it Best’s operations by increasing the amount of stores Ruan was able to deliver to in their network.

Our Beginning

On July 4, 1932, John Ruan hauled his first load of gravel during the Great Depression and the company was born.

Early Years

Hauling gravel turned to coal, and within months, dedication and perseverance expanded the fleet from one truck into three. Before long, trucks were moving throughout the Midwest. The story was just getting started.

Meeting Demands

During World War II, a heavy demand for petroleum strengthened the business, and in the years that followed, the company evolved rapidly to support a growing nation.

Continuing to Expand

Ruan began serving new customers by hauling new products.
