Ruan is proud to announce that Jeremy Carmichael, Vice President of Operations, will serve on the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) 2025-2026 Research Advisory Committee (RAC). The RAC is comprised of government officials, academics, professional truck drivers, and trucking company executives and suppliers from a diverse cross-section of the industry, all of whom understand the importance of sound science to an industry as complex as the trucking industry. The RAC is charged with annually recommending a research agenda for the Institute.
Jeremy has worked in the transportation industry for over 29 years, starting with Ruan in 2021. We took a few minutes to learn more about Jeremy’s experience and the work he will be doing on the RAC. Check out our Q&A below!
What excites you most about being a part of the RAC?
It’s a great opportunity to support the industry and the challenges that affect us. We hope to help influence personally, professionally, and organizationally the way the American Trucking Association educates our government and provide input to what can impact policy and change.
What specific expertise or perspective do you hope to bring to the committee?
Throughout my 29 years in the transportation industry, I’ve lived in various locations across the United States and have seen different factors with policies, environment, and geopolitical influences across the board affect our supply chains. My experience taught me what is required to enact change and drive policy.
What area of transportation are you most passionate about?
First, the people in this industry are incredible – passionate, driven, and collaborative in tackling shared challenges. The relationships formed here are enduring, creating a tight-knit network that I genuinely enjoy being part of. Second, the fast-paced nature of the industry keeps things exciting, requiring constant adaptation, problem-solving, and resilience to stay ahead. Lastly, the pursuit of continuous improvement has always captivated me. The industry’s blend of complexity, resilience, simplicity, and opportunity makes it both a challenge and a rewarding space to work in.
What do you hope to see accomplished?
Throughout the two years, I hope to see further identification of industry problems and challenges, education to both legislative and state branches, and solutions put into play to solve those.
