Becoming a diesel mechanic or technician can be a highly rewarding career. It's not just another job or paycheck; a career at Ruan as a technician will set you up for a successful future. Here are some insights from one of our regional maintenance managers on becoming a diesel mechanic at Ruan.
Tell us about the latest technology that is available to Ruan technicians.
This is an exciting time with almost every aspect of technology changing and evolving. All Ruan shops are equipped with laptop diagnostic computers, and all our mechanics and technicians are trained to operate the equipment.
One of the ways our teams utilize technology is to get diagnostic information. Most troubleshooting or diagnostics for repairs and identification is obtained through telematics and is downloaded to a technician’s diagnostic laptop or smart phone.
An example of how a mechanic would use technology to make a repair would be to troubleshoot a low power issue. Here, a technician would connect diagnostic tools and search for active or inactive codes that would cause low power. If an active code of a boost sensor indicates less than the correct value, they would continue the process, and then possibly identify and replace a turbocharger or boost sensor. Another simple notification may be an active fault code sent through telematics informing the technician or manager of unit with a turn signal indicator lamp inoperative.
