The World Food Prize will host the 2016 Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium on October 12-14. This conference features global leaders, policy makers and experts in fields such as food supply, agriculture, nutrition, science and more. The conference is held in conjunction with the Laureate Award Ceremony, which will recognize the four winners of the 2016 prize: Dr. Maria Andrade, Dr. Robert Mwanga, Dr. Jan Low and Dr. Howarth Bouis.
John Ruan established a $10 million foundation to ensure the permanent endowment of the World Food Prize, after the original sponsor withdrew support in 1990. The Ruan family has always been passionate about helping to alleviate hunger, and was proud to help do so through recognizing achievements in agriculture. The Ruan family played a vital role in adding the Youth Institute and restoring the century-old Des Moines Public Library into what is now the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates in Des Moines, IA.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Dr. Norman E. Borlaug establishment of the World Food Prize, and is entitled “Let Food be Thy Medicine,” a quote from Hippocrates. Ruan is proud to sponsor the World Food Prize and support all of the program’s efforts to improve the quality, quantity and availability of food in the world.
