Food Logistics, a publication dedicated to covering the movement of product through the global food supply chain, has named Ruan to the Top Green Providers list for 2020. Ruan has received this award every year since 2016.
Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs, facilities that are LEED-certified, and more.
Ruan utilizes biodiesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), renewable natural gas (RNG), renewable diesel, and, soon, electric vehicles in our fleet. The Ruan natural gas fleet has traveled over 100 million miles, including 70 million miles on an RNG milk hauling fleet, sequestering methane and eliminating diesel consumption. Ruan consumes 1 million gallons of renewable diesel and over 35 million gallons of biodiesel blends per year. Additionally, the Ruan fleet has green specifications such as auxiliary power units and five-minute idle shutoff; auto-tire inflation, tire pressure monitoring, and low rolling resistance tires; and electronic logging devices that track MPG, RPM, idle time, and over-speed metrics, to name a few. Ruan is a multiple-time SmartWay Excellence Award recipient for commitment to helping lead the freight industry to a more sustainable future.
“For years, we have been working to make our supply chain and fleet cleaner and more efficient. These efforts include the use of alternative fuels whenever possible, investing in new technology and trucks that reduce our emissions impact, and creating more efficient supply chain solutions for our customers. It is an honor to be recognized within our industry for these efforts, and we will continue to work toward a greener future,” said Ruan’s Director of Procurement and Fuel Steve Larsen.
"Our annual Top Green Providers award recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership enhances sustainability within the food and beverage industry. From technology that reduces a fleet's carbon footprint to software that helps shippers drive energy efficiency to systems and processes that help reduce the carbon and environmental impact of its customers’ supply chains, these top green providers continue to practice the ultimate in sustainability year over year," said Marina Mayer, editor-in-chief of Food Logistics.
