On Friday, October 21, Ruan hosted a community-wide food drive called Stuff the Truck as part of our annual United Way campaign. A Ruan tractor and custom-wrapped 53’ foot trailer was parked outside of the Ruan Center in downtown Des Moines, IA, to collect non-perishable food donations. Ruan professional driver Steve Milang delivered the donations to the Food Bank of Iowa.
“I love getting to do events like this and being a part of a company that values giving back to the community in such a significant way,” said Milang.
Stuff the Truck was made possible in part by sponsorships from Bankers Trust and Reames, a subsidiary of the T. Marzetti Company. Prior the event, the truck dropped off 11 pallets, weighing around 18,500 pounds, of frozen food from Marzetti as part of the overall Stuff the Truck donation. During the nearly two-hour food drive, an additional 4,868 pounds of food was donated. In total, Stuff the Truck collected nearly 23,200 pounds of donated food!
“We are honored that our valued partner Marzetti contributed such a generous donation and allowed us to utilize their equipment for the event,” said Ruan President and Chief Operating Officer Dan Van Alstine. “Thank you to everyone that came out, donated food and made our event such a success!”
All local businesses and residents were invited to bring donations and take part in the event. Employees from Straub Corporation, Nationwide Insurance and Concentric International also contributed donations. Participants received a voucher for a free lunch at Moar Tacos, helped load donations and enjoyed games, prizes and snacks.
We want to thank everyone who participated in Stuff the Truck! Please visit Ruan's Facebook page to see more pictures from the event.
