Professional truck drivers play a vital role not only in the economy but also in their local communities, and it’s not unusual that they go above and beyond their daily work. Ruan professional driver Mark Willett from our operation in Muscatine, IA, was recently awarded Ruan’s Extra Mile Award for his efforts to help an injured motorcyclist on the road.
Dispatch Coordinator Taylor Griffin recounts the events that led to Willett’s nomination for the award:
“Mark was on his way to another facility to grab an empty trailer, and he called me over the radio to inform emergency services that he saw a man who was hit on his motorcycle left on the ground. While waiting for first responders to arrive, he took his tractor and blocked oncoming traffic to allow first responders the space necessary to keep him safe. Many community members praised his quick actions and his eagerness to help while on duty.”
“Mark has shown great problem-solving skills with his quick thinking and actions, it truly shows a man of great character,” said Griffin. “I am proud to work with this kind individual here at our Muscatine operation.”
As a recipient of an Extra Mile Award, Mark was presented with a monetary gift and certificate recognizing his efforts. Thank you, Mark, for going the extra mile, and putting Ruan’s Guiding Principles of Safety Focus and People First top of mind in an emergency.
